CW@50: News in September
A novel application of the Lloyds Register of Shipping structural analysis software was successfully completed last month. The software was used to assess the structural safety of the gates of the graving dock used for the building of a BP North Sea oil platform. The software, based on Nastran, a finite element analysis package originally developed by Nasa, was run on Lloyds’ one Mbyte IBM 370/158 in London.
