A datacentre in a church: Welcome to the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre
MareNostrum is housed within a glass box, and the equipment inside is securely locked away using a mix of biometric fingerprint recognition technology, and a “man trap” door to prevent unwanted visitors from tail-gating authorised personnel into the site.
Unlike many datacentres, the site is open to visitors, with BSC regularly organising of the facility for schools, as part of the team’s commitment to trying to encouraging more young people to consider a career in science and technology.
