Surrey makes strides in paperless policing
The in-car Wi-Fi solution enables video streaming over 3G networks from Surrey Police’s squad cars back to the control centre on the outskirts of Guildford.
In a high-speed pursuit, the police have a responsibility to stop the target vehicle as quickly as possible and minimise risk to the public.
By having an extra pair of eyes on the road, the force hopes that cooler heads can be encouraged to prevail in a potentially dangerous situation, managing pursuits more effectively and steering car chases away from busy town centres, schools, and so on, to locations where the police can safely shut down the target vehicle.
The general public, meanwhile, may be reassured that Surrey Police is attempting to take steps to increase its general accountability.
