Consolidating the workspace

One of Cisco’s first announcement was a new range of collaboration devices and a cloud service.

The networking vendor announced the DX80 and DX70 devices, and the Collaboration Meeting Room (CMR) cloud solution.

This cloud offering is to try and consolidate all the different video conferencing software on the market which doesn’t work together.

CMR provides a personal meeting room that can be accessed instantly.

“Our heritage at Cisco is connecting the unconnected,” said senior vice-president and general manager of Cisco's collaboration technology group, Rowan Trollope. “We wanted to build a system that will connect everything together.”

Users of the CMR will be able to share a unique URL with up to 500 people who can then join meetings through any browser on a PC or Mac. It also supports Android, iOS and Windows Phone.

“It’s always on, so you don’t have to schedule it,” said Trollope. “And built on the power of Web Ex, it connects any device to any device.”

The CMR service will be available through Cisco’s existing telepresence software partners later this year.
