A first look: Windows 8 consumer preview

Microsoft bundles several Metro apps with the Consumer Preview, including Mail, Calendar, Maps, Weather, Photo viewer, Music and Video players, Instant messaging, and a PDF reader (shown above).  There is a People app which aggregates contact and social media activity from several sources, including LinkedIn, Exchange, Facebook, Twitter and Windows Live. There is also a Metro Remote Desktop client. Many of these apps are not yet done. The Mail app, for example, does not yet support POP3 or IMAP, and can reply to but not forward emails. Microsoft is still working on these apps and updates should be available during the life of the preview.
