Nordic healthcare services provider outsources IT infrastructure
Healthcare service provider Falck is planning to transform its business with a standardised and simplified IT infrastructure at the core
Denmark-based healthcare services provider Falck has outsourced its IT infrastructure to HCL as part of its technology-enabled business transformation.
HCL will bring together Falck’s IT services into a single global IT infrastructure service to simplify and standardise what is currently made up of disparate datacentres, networks and operating systems around the world. It will also enable the company to automate more business processes.
Falck is headquartered in Denmark and operates in 35 countries, and it provides healthcare-related services, including ambulance provision.
“Our IT infrastructure is mission-critical, as it underpins the applications and processes that enable our teams to help people in need and to save lives,” said Poul Erbo Mortensen, chief operating officer at Falck.
He said HCL’s track record in the Nordic region was an important consideration. “We chose HCL due to its proven track record in driving large-scale IT transformations for clients in the Nordics and around the world,” he added.
The Nordics is a key customer region for Indian IT services giant HCL, which has been growing its presence in the region through contract wins, investment and acquisition.
For service delivery, Falck will use HCL’s recently opened global delivery centre in Gothenburg, Sweden, as well as sites in the US and South America.
The centre is HCL’s twelfth in the Nordics, and grew out of HCL’s 2015 acquisition of the IT department of Sweden’s Volvo Group, which was a customer. The $200m deal saw more than 2,500 of the truck maker’s IT staff, including much sought-after mainframe experts, transfer to HCL.
In March 2015, the supplier opened a 100-seat centre in Norwegian capital Oslo as a hub to provide IT infrastructure and application services to its customers in the Nordics.
HCL started its operations in Europe in 1999 and is present in 18 European countries, with offices in countries including the UK, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands and Poland. It employs more than 4,500 people in Europe, serving around 200 European customers.
