Hewlett-Packard (HP) has announced its chief strategy and technology officer, Shane Robinson, will retire at the end of October - and won't be replaced.
Robison has worked at HP for 11 years and has been responsible for the company's corporate strategy and technology agenda. HP said Robison was responsible for HP's multibillion-dollar research and development investment as well as leading large mergers and acquisitions.
HP confirmed Robison would leave the company on 1st November 2011. The company has no plans to replace the role.
"In an effort to drive strategy, research and development closer to the company's businesses, it will not be replacing the role of chief strategy and technology officer," said HP in a statement.
HP named Meg Whitman (pictured) as its new chief executive officer in September 2011, confirming speculation that the former eBay chief would replace Léo Apotheker.
She said Robison has been a "powerful innovator" for HP. "His passion for research and development has ensured that innovation continues at HP," she added.
HP announced a major shake-up at the firm with plans to spin off its PC business, ditch its TouchPad tablet range and acquire UK software company Autonomy for £7.1bn.
HP's board also moved Ray Lane from non-executive chairman to executive chairman of the board of directors.
