Hulu withdraws Facebook Connect feature after software glitch leaked users' data
US online video service Hulu has withdrawn its Facebook Connect integration because of security problems discovered soon after launch.
US online video service Hulu has withdrawn its Facebook Connect integration because of security problems discovered soon after launch.
The feature was introduced to enable users to post comments on Hulu videos on their Facebook accounts and share favourite shows with their Facebook friends.
Some users reported that, on login they saw the Hulu account information of other users instead of their own, according to US reports.
The profile data of about Hulu 50 users, including e-mail addresses, could have been accessed by other users, but the data did not include passwords or credit card numbers.
Hulu says the flaw resulted from a coding and configuration error on its side. Hulu said the flaw was not due to a hacking attack or a vulnerability in Facebook Connect.
The video service company says it is taking steps to protect its users and ensure the issue does not happen again. Hulu said it will re-launch the Facebook Connect feature only once the issue has been addressed fully.
