Softcat weighs up furry choice
Channel player raises thousands for Mind as part of its April’s Fool campaign
What’s in a name? Years of associated goodwill, customer recognition and in the case of Softcat something that is etched on numerous industry awards.
Given the importance of brand it was a good choice of an April Fool by Softcat to consider changing its long established name, which emerged out of its heritage as a software catalogue specialist.
The Marlow based business gave customers, partners and the wider general public the chance to vote this morning through a social media campaign if it should stick with ‘Softcat’ or change its name to ‘Softdog’.
The firm pledged to donate £5 to Mind for every vote received and thanks to the participation in the campaign managed to raise an impressive £5,000 for its chosen charity.
“Mind has been one of our nominated charities for the past year and they do such exceptional work ensuring those with mental health problems get the help and support they need. Something that is particularly critical during this especially challenging time for our country,” said Graeme Watt, CEO of Softcat.
“I am delighted that as well as our little prank creating a bit of light relief for our staff, customers and wider general public it also raised some much needed funds for a charity which is very close to our hearts” he added.
