Computer 2000 renamed Tech Data
The Computer 2000 name is to disappear from the UK market 15 years after its purchase by global distribution giant Tech Data
Fifteen years after entering the market with the purchase of Computer 2000, Tech Data has taken the decision to rename its main UK operation Tech Data, bringing it in-line with all of the distribution group’s global and European operations.
Tech Data bought Computer 2000 in April 1998, purchasing a majority stake in the business in a deal that was worth, at the time, around $350m.
The decision to rename the business lays the groundwork for the “forthcoming integration” of recent acquisition SDG, as well as its specialist units, Azlan, Datech, Maverick and Tech Data Mobile, according to Tech Data UK and Ireland MD Peter Hubbard.
“We are proud, after 15 years, to be trading under the same brand as our parent company and the rest of the Tech Data group,” said Hubbard. “The rebrand is an important milestone in the history of the UK organisation.”
External signage, marketing collateral and stationery will now all have to be changed, with the firm’s website already updated at the time of writing.
The distie told resellers and vendors that they should see a seamless transition, with existing phone numbers and email addresses still working.
Meanwhile, Tech Data remains embroiled in a battle with US financial regulators to maintain its listing on the NASDAQ stock exchange.
As reported earlier in October 2013, it is seeking more time to put together a plan for regaining compliance with regulations governing the timely filing of its accounts.
The distributor got into difficulties earlier this year after uncovering major accounting irregularities at Computer 2000.
