What to expect from Flink Forward Berlin 2024
With Apache Flink soon to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Ververica, as the original creator of Apache Flink and a real-time data streaming specialist, is set to mark the occasion at Flink Forward Berlin 2024.
The training and conference event for Apache Flink and everything streaming data will take place from October 21st to 24th at the newly built venue, Gasometer Schöneberg on the EUREF-Campus.
Although Flink Forward is an annual event hosted globally, it’s only natural that Ververica would want to celebrate the framework’s move into double digits with an extended 4-day event in honour of the 10th anniversary in Berlin, the birthplace of Flink.
Flink beginnings
Apache Flink began as a prototype developed through an academic project, with its first open source version released in 2014. Since then, it has evolved into a unified framework for both batch and stream processing, a crucial tool for businesses with real-time data needs.
From real-time analytics and anomaly detection to IoT telemetry analysis and dynamic pricing, Flink powers a wide range of critical, data-driven applications.
What is Flink Forward?
Each year, Ververica hosts engineers from major cities worldwide to receive Flink training, learn how data processing has evolved, and share knowledge of the latest developments and applications for the technology.
This year, there will be two training tracks; the two-day ‘Bootcamp Training’ will immerse attendees in key Flink concepts through intensive, practical exercises grounded in what are promised to be real-world scenarios.
Participants will gain an understanding of Flink and learn to optimise their cloud-based solutions using Ververica Cloud services. The advanced track (‘Masterclass’), will deep dive into themes such as Flink SQL, Flink CDC and Streaming Lakehouse with Flink.
The training days (21st and 22nd October 2024) will be followed by two conference days that will include an opening session, focusing on the past, present and future of Apache Flink.
The opening session will also feature the original creators of Flink, as well as current Ververica customers (including Booking.com and more) and Flink users as they share how they use Ververica’s streaming data platform with real-time use cases. Other sessions will focus on use cases for streaming technologies across various sectors, with one showing how Flink is being used to prevent ship groundings in rivers and ports around the world.
“This year’s Flink Forward is a special one for Ververica as we get to celebrate this significant Apache Flink milestone in the city in which the company was born. By bringing businesses and engineers together in a forum that enables them to share knowledge and upskill, we secure the future of innovation powered by the very best data processing technologies,” said Ververica’s CEO, Alexander Walden.
Flink Forward is an event for all those interested in the latest data processing technology and capabilities. From beginners in Flink to Software and Data Engineers to Senior technology decision-makers across industries there is something for everyone.
Only teased so far, Ververica is also promising some “special commemorative surprises” to mark Apache Flink’s 10th anniversary, with key company updates to be included.
