WP Engine DE{CODE}: the future is (headless) open source

The future of headless technologies, advances in e-commerce and the next generation of software application development builder tools are all part of WP Engine DE{CODE}, an event belonging to WordPress platform company WP Engine.

This is the firm’s fourth annual developer conference and it’s completely free and 100% virtual.

The event itself is dedicated to sharing technical knowledge with the global WordPress community and it attempts to highlight the organiser’s commitment to open source innovation and contribution.

What started in 2020 as 2,500 registrants has now grown to over 4,800 from over 100 different countries (last year).

This virtual gathering take place on March 21, 2023 for audiences in APAC and the U.S. and on March 23 for audiences in EMEA, enabling developers across different time zones to participate in live conversation during the event.

“DE{CODE} has always been about giving back to the community and creating another online space where WordPress developers can keep learning. It’s become a mainstay for developers who want to keep up with the latest trends and best practices in modern WordPress development,” said WP Engine founder and chief innovation officer Jason Cohen.

Get ahead with headless

With the acceleration of the ‘Block Editor’ for content and full-site editing, Cohen suggests that headless architectures are gaining popularity. The WordPress block editor offers an array of blocks that can be used to create media-rich pages and posts.

According to WordPress.org, “The WordPress block editor also called the block editor, WordPress editor or Gutenberg editor is the new way of publishing content in WordPress.”

Following the launch of WordPress 5.0 in December 2018, the WordPress block editor was set as the default editor and replaced the classic editor. To use the classic editor, users will need to install the classic editor plugin.

“We’re excited about DE{CODE} 2023 as it gives us the opportunity to engage with the smartest minds in the industry, showcase exciting new capabilities and solutions from WP Engine and add value to the workflow and processes of developers around the world,” said WP Engine SVP and chief technology officer Ramadass Prabhakar.
