Tibco Covid-19 tool follows the (data) science
The world runs on data, no news there.
The world runs on connected, often unstructured, complex to wrangle, tough to clean, classify and log, hard to lock down and troublesome to monitor data… still no real news, but at least some additional clarity there then.
The path out of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) contagion could (perhaps should) also be data-driven, or so argues enterprise data company Tibco Software Inc.
With an eye on openness and open source software, one of Tibco’s more prevalent open initiatives is Project Flogo — an open source ecosystem of opinionated event-driven capabilities to simplify building efficient & modern serverless functions, microservices & edge apps.
These days concentrating its (open and otherwise) data development efforts towards products that connect and unify business outcomes, the company (like every other major enterprise software shop) is also employing a good degree of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has now added various tiers of ‘predict’ functions to its connection and unification foundations.
Aiming to put some of that predictive data power to good, Tibco Labs (the company likes to call it TIBCO LABS in caps, just to be louder) has fast-tracked the deployment of a TIBCO4Good initiative, harnessing the power of the company’s own cloud tier to deliver a managed offering for Covid-19 symptom tracking of employees.
Tibco GatherSmart
Tibco GatherSmart is designed to provide a safe, easy-to-manage solution for all types and sizes of organisations as they return to work.
This technology pools the collective technical resources of the Labs division and the Tibco Connected Intelligence Cloud platform.
It provides an ‘at-cost’ option for businesses and communities who understand the value of proactive monitoring to help prevent the further spread of the Covid-19 virus, particularly as the economy reopens and people go back to the workplace.
“The well-being of every community relies on the health, safety and productivity of its workforce, especially during these challenging times. This principle guides our mission to help fight the pandemic and we are proud to offer this critical solution. GatherSmart demonstrates the speed and agility of our Tibco Cloud platform, allowing users to quickly adjust to changing circumstances and facilitate a responsible transition back to work,” said Dan Streetman, chief executive officer, Tibco.
Streetman and team say that they are not just following the science, but following the data science. He says that this tool, powered by visual analytics and data science and offered at-cost, allows organisations to identify at-risk employees and guests in real time, ensuring a safer workplace.
Through an employee mobile app and employer control centre, GatherSmart draws from survey and analytics-driven data to create a single view of an individual’s readiness to return to work with regional context.
Health surveys, digital passports
After filling in a daily health survey form, predetermined by an employer and based on HR policies and privacy standards, the employee will receive a daily digital passport confirming if they have the green light to return to the office.
Managers can use daily health data for a view of teams’ in-office or at-home status.
GatherSmart can also be customised, based on the customer’s requirements, to overlay external regional information and display it on a map, through a professional services engagement. This helps ascertain if employees live in a ‘hotspot’.
“Data is power and this kind of access at-cost will make a huge impact on the fight against the pandemic,” said Dawn LaPlante, vice president, Talent, PowerSchool, an education technology software company based in California.
Additional analytical models can be added and APIs allow for integration into existing mobile and HR applications for onward customisations.
