Tech in APAC - May 2021

In this edition of Tech in APAC, we’ll cover some of the top headlines in the region, starting with how a transportation agency in Australia is using machine learning.

At the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Transport for New South Wales had to restore public confidence in the state’s transportation network and curb the spread of the disease.

One of the ways it did that was to analyse the travel history recorded by Opal transit cards using machine learning, and inform commuters if the regular buses and trains that they had been taking were Covid-safe.

It’s a good example of how smart city projects, some of which run the risk of being white elephants, can really make an impact on people’s lives.

We also had the honour of speaking with some thought leaders in the industry. They include M1’s CEO Manjot Singh Mann, who shared how the telco is turning itself into a digital telco, and SAP CTO Juergen Mueller who offered a glimpse into the company’s technology strategy and roadmap.

In this Loom video, check out our take on some of these developments, and please tell us what you think in the comments.
