Get Luckey
The creator of a VR company bought by Facebook in 2014 has come up with the idea of a headset that can enhance the experience of dying in a game by also killing you in real life.
“Only the threat of serious consequences can make a game feel real,” Palmer Luckey mused on his device, which deploys explosive charge modules to instantaneously destroy the hapless gamer’s brain.
“This is an area of video game mechanics that has never been explored, despite the long history of real-world sports revolving around similar stakes.”
Lately we’ve been suffering from a touch of portentous magnate fatigue, so please forgive the snippy tone here, but instead of making goggles that can end a life, maybe it’s time this insufferable mutant worked on a technology that can help him actually get one.
